Youth Leadership Training (YLT) Programs
Objective:
Leadership Skills Attainment
The Challenger Learning Center provides the specialized leadership training that WIA youth need to help increase leadership skills of teamwork, decision-making, crisis management, problem analysis, and solution implementation. WIA youth may live in low-income environments and/or have barriers to employment success such as being deficient in basic skills, may be a dropout, runaway, homeless, or foster child, pregnant or parenting teen, released offender, or an individual with disabilities. These youth often learn best in the interactive setting provided by Challenger Learning Center model. (more)
Scope:
Youths will attend the Youth Leadership Program through Challenger Learning Center on dates to be set by the customer. Each “mission” includes up to 28 youth participants, some from workforce regions in Colorado and two supervisory staff. Depending on the number of WIA youth enrolled, there will be one or more Youth Workforce Development Specialists who will supervise and accompany each group of up to 28 students. (more)
Program Specifics:
Friday evenings, from 5 to 9 pm for mission preparation and Saturdays from 8 am to 4 pm for mission execution and follow-up activities. Youths will be divided into appropriate age groups whenever appropriate, although this is not mandatory for program success. Suggested groups are 15 – 18 YOA and 19 – 21 YOA. The Workforce Center will provide not less than one Youth Workforce Development Specialist to supervise each session. At no time will there be fewer than two (2) adult program staff in attendance with the youth. (more)
